Practice Overview Lisa E. Aguiar represents companies and management. She advises clients on handling day-to-day employment issues, planning and implementing layoffs and other terminations, dealing with discrimination and harassment issues, and offers company-wide employment law training. She drafts and negotiates separation packages and negotiates settlements on behalf of corporate clients. A former plaintiff’s attorney for eight years, Lisa has expertise in all types of alternative dispute resolution, including arbitration, mediation, early neutral evaluation, and early settlement conferences. When a lawsuit is filed, Lisa represents her clients in all phases of the litigation process. Recent Matters • Successfully defensed a million dollar wage claim brought by several former employees alleging failure to pay overtime and bonuses • Successfully defended a leading art dealer in binding arbitration against a former employee alleging pregnancy discrimination • Negotiated settlement of a multi-million dollar lawsuit brought by six former employees against a cheese manufacturer, alleging national origin and age discrimination • Successful settlement of numerous unfair competition lawsuits against former employees and their new employers involving corporate confidential information and trade secret violations • Negotiated a favorable settlement in an unfair business practices matter brought by a former employee and former customer against a large sales organization • Conducted a hospital-wide employment audit, assisted in developing the contract administration program, redrafted the employee handbook, and conducted harassment training for nonunion personnel Speaking Engagements A frequent trainer and speaker, Lisa has performed corporate in-house training on such recent topics as prevention of sexual harassment, diversity issues, and best practices in hiring. She has recently presented seminars on Deciphering the Alphabet Soup of Leave Requirements: FMLA, CFRA, PDL, WC and I Wish You Hadn’t Said That!
