Alison Buchanan is an associate in the firm’s San Jose office, where she focuses on all aspects of civil litigation.

Ms. Buchanan has particular expertise in the areas of business litigation, professional liability/professional malpractice, and legal ethics.  Her additional experience in contracts, securities, real estate, and personal injury litigation makes her a valued resource for her clients.

Representative Matters

• Recently third-chaired a jury trial in federal court; conducted witness examinations and presented part of the closing argument
  
  
• Second chaired a seven-day jury trial involving allegations of employment discrimination; conducted witness examinations and presented opening statement
  
  
• Second-chaired a seven-day jury trial involving a contract dispute; conducted key witness examinations and presented closing argument
  
  
• Second-chaired a three-day binding arbitration before a National Association of Securities Dealers panel in a securities litigation matter involving a major international brokerage firm
  
  
• Obtained a favorable ruling for a corporate client in a DLSE hearing involving allegations of unpaid wages and commissions
  
  
• Currently defends several law firms in various actions alleging professional malpractice, and provides advice to law firms and lawyers on ethical issues

Speaking Engagements and Professional Activities

Ms. Buchanan is an active member of the Santa Clara County Bar Association, serving on its Civil Practice and Finance Committees, and as chair of the Law-Related Education Committee.  She is also a co-chair of the Amicus Committee for the Silicon Valley Campaign for Legal Services, and teaches professional responsibility at Lincoln Law School in San Jose.

Community Involvement

Ms. Buchanan is a member of the Community Leadership San Jose-Silicon Valley Class of 2008.  She also serves on the board of directors for Cambrian Center, a nonprofit independent living facility for the elderly and disabled.
