SAN JOSE, CA – January 11, 2010: Hoge Fenton Jones & Appel, a leading Northern California law firm, today announced that Alison P. Buchanan has been elevated to shareholder, effective January 1.

“Alison has demonstrated the delivery of highly competent client service in professional liability cases, ethics issues and general business litigation,” added James E. Towery, the firm’s Litigation Group Chair and Buchanan’s mentor.  “We are pleased to welcome her to the ownership ranks of the firm and are looking forward to her contributions in this new role.”

Buchanan focuses on all aspects of civil litigation, with particular expertise in business litigation, professional liability and professional malpractice, and legal ethics.  She is an active member of the Santa Clara County Bar Association, serving on its Civil Practice and Finance Committees.  She also is a past co-chair of the Amicus Committee for the Silicon Valley Campaign for Legal Services, and teaches professional responsibility and legal malpractice courses at Lincoln Law School in San Jose.  Buchanan is a regular speaker on legal ethics-related issues.  Buchanan received her J.D., with honors, from Chicago-Kent College of Law (Illinois Institute of Technology) and her B.A. in Criminology, Law and Society from U.C. Irvine.
